Your First Step

In Teaching Science or Math
The OSUTeach program provides science (biological science, chemistry, geology, physics, and zoology) and mathematics majors with the opportunity to try out teaching in elementary or middle school classrooms through SMED 1012 - Inquiry Approaches to Teaching, Step 1. This two hour course helps a student decide if they want to pursue a science or mathematics degree with a secondary teacher certification option.

SMED 1012 - Inquiry Approaches to Teaching, Step 1

A student designs and teaches using lessons they have written based on district curriculum.

A student wanting to enroll in STEP 1 should talk with their academic advisor to learn more about the class or contact OSUTeach to learn more.

Students do not need to declare a secondary teacher certification option to enroll in these courses, but will become eligible for grants, scholarships, and other opportunities available through the OSUTeach program if they do. These degrees provide students with flexibility in future careers by preparing them with strong content knowledge in their discipline, as well as the professional education courses necessary for a successful secondary teaching career.

Master TeachersYour Key to a Teaching Career

Preparation to teach includes work in elementary, middle and high school classrooms with Master Teachers as they develop inquiry-based lessons using research-based curricula and materials. Students can earn a degree in their STEM major, a degree in secondary-education, and full teaching certification without added time or cost.
